Jamal Bryant recently told his congregation that if they wanted to see God move in August, they should say one little word:
“ABRACADABRA.”
Yes. Seriously.
Bryant attempted to connect the magician’s phrase to Romans 4:17 and the idea that Christians can supposedly “speak things into existence.”
There’s just one problem:
That is NOT what Romans 4 teaches.
In this episode of Unshakable, I break down Romans 4:17, Hebrews 11:3, biblical creation ex nihilo, Christian prayer, manifestation theology, and the Bible’s clear warnings concerning sorcery and magical practices.
Romans 4 doesn’t teach that Abraham spoke Isaac into existence.
It teaches that Abraham trusted GOD — the One who “gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.”
There is a major difference between trusting God’s Word and believing that your own words have supernatural creative power.
We’re also going to examine why Christians should be extremely cautious when pastors begin borrowing ideas from manifestation culture, magical thinking, New Thought theology and occult terminology and attempting to baptize it with Bible verses.
Sometimes bad theology is dangerous.
Sometimes it’s ridiculous.
Sometimes…it’s both.
