Nolan Wells’ parents recently sat down with Pastor Jamal Bryant for a lengthy interview about their grief, their son, their search for answers—and race.

And that’s where I have questions.

During the interview, Bryant invoked Mississippi Burning, Medgar Evers and Emmett Till before asking Christine Wells what it is like to be Black in Mississippi in 2026. Christine then responded:

“I really hope this isn’t what I know it could potentially be.”

What exactly is being implied?

Because we keep hearing that this case is simply about obtaining answers regarding what happened to Nolan. Yet more and more activists, attorneys, politicians and now pastors seem determined to place Nolan’s death inside a racial framework before evidence establishing a racial motive has been presented.

Tonight we’re going to examine the clips for ourselves.

Who racialized Nolan Wells?

Was race established by the evidence—or introduced by the people surrounding this family?

And ironically, Nolan’s own father says he taught his children to judge people by character, not skin color.

Let’s separate grief from grievance, questions from accusations, and evidence from implication.
