Happy Independence Day, America! In this episode of Unshakable with April Chapman, I’m saying the quiet part out loud: I celebrate the Fourth of July — proudly, boldly, and unapologetically.
Yes, I am a Black American woman. Yes, I know American history includes slavery, injustice, and bloodshed. But I also know this nation’s story includes courage, sacrifice, revolution, and men — Black and white — who fought, bled, and died to assert the freedom God had already given them.
The Fourth of July is not a holiday I’m waiting to be invited into. It is a holiday I lay claim to.
And while the woke victimhood crowd wants to tell Black Americans we should reject Independence Day and cling to grievance, I’m asking a different question: Why would I celebrate a day that centers waiting for someone else to announce freedom, while rejecting the day that represents men standing up to tyranny and declaring liberty?
My rights do not come from government. My rights do not come from Joe Biden. My rights do not come from the white liberal savior complex. My rights come from God.

In this episode, I contrast July 4th and Juneteenth, challenge the culture of perpetual victimhood, and explain why real freedom is not begged for — it is asserted.
