In this episode, I react to a conversation where a man tries to use Revelation 1 to argue that Jesus was a black man — and then openly admits that if Jesus shares his race, it makes him “better than somebody.”
And that right there is the whole problem.
Revelation 1 is not a police sketch of Jesus. John is not giving us a racial profile, a complexion report, or a first-century mugshot. He is describing the glorified Christ using symbolic, apocalyptic imagery rooted in the Old Testament — especially Daniel, Ezekiel, and Isaiah.
When John says Jesus’ hair was “white like wool” and “white like snow,” the emphasis is not on texture. It is on whiteness, radiance, glory, purity, eternity, and divine majesty. This passage is not about proving Jesus had “Afro hair.” It is about revealing that Jesus is the eternal Son of God, the divine Judge, the great High Priest, and the sovereign King over His church.
The real issue here is not melanin. It is idolatry.
When people come to Scripture looking for racial superiority, they are not submitting to the Word of God. They are using the Bible to glory in their flesh. But the gospel leaves no room for boasting. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone — not by ethnicity, ancestry, skin color, or tribal identity.
So let’s talk about Revelation 1, bad hermeneutics, Hebrew Israelite proof-texting, racial idolatry, and why Jesus is far greater than anyone’s racial imagination.
