A viral TikTok about Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard sparked a much-needed conversation about Black fatigue, standards, culture, and why some people get offended when they are simply told to act with dignity.
Let’s be clear: this is not about hating Black people. I am Black. My family is Black. My friends are Black. This is about rejecting a subculture of chaos, entitlement, vulgarity, public disorder, and moral foolishness that too often embarrasses everyone else and then demands protection under the banner of “the community.”
The gentleman in the original video was gracious. He highlighted Oak Bluffs as a historic space of Black wealth, family, professionalism, and dignity. His message was simple: come enjoy it, but know how to act.
Apparently, that was too much.
Today, we’re talking about why standards are not racism, why civility is not whiteness, and why the chronic victim can never be trusted with nice things.
