Congressman Hank Johnson has issued the Democratic Party’s latest warning to Black America: stand up, fight back and vote—or “we’re going to be back in the cotton fields.” Yes, he actually said it.

During an appearance on Roland Martin Unfiltered, Johnson claimed that Republicans are waging “a war on Black America” and warned that Black lives depend upon the outcome of the November midterm elections. But is this really about protecting Black Americans—or protecting the careers, influence and political power of Democratic politicians?
